I’m back

Like many others I return here, after a many year hiatus. I will say I am glad unlike so many other sites this one seems to always stay largely the same function-wise

Though I suspect I’m gonna need to purge all stuff on my account from before. I was quite angsty back then

Y’know what trope I hate? When the character who dates a lot/has lots of one night stands/doesn’t want to be in a serious relationship ends up settling down because they “finally found the right person”, and everything they did before was because they were “sad”, “scared”, or “lost”, or “too young and immature”; or were trying to “punish themselves” (literally wtf???). I hate it and I want it gone forever.

I never, ever fucked up those fleeting “relationships” and so far, both parties were and are always pretty happy. The relationships I did fuck up were the serious, monogamous ones I forced myself into, thinking it was the normal/right thing to do. That caused a lot of damage. And not because of cheating, because that’s also a twisted trope TV just LOVES. When the “womanizer” finally settle down but tragically ends up cheating because “in the end, that’s in their nature”. 

No. “People who don’t like to settle” are still normal humans capable of basic decency and emotions. Cheating is terrible, and communication is always key. Believe me, those kind of forced monogamous and serious relationships usually don’t end because of cheating, but because neither partners is getting what they need from it and it suffocates both of them. It ends with sadness, and sometimes misunderstanding. And sometimes it gets better. But it never lasts.

I just wish TV, and everyone else for that matters, understood that “aromantic/polyamorous/non-monogamous” people exist and aren’t fucking broken. Cheating and lying and self-destructive behaviors is NOT in our nature. Caring, communicating, and tenderness is. Not being able to feel romantic love or romantic emotions doesn’t mean you can’t care deeply about someone. We’re just humans like everybody else.

A few perks of being aro:

  • Think how much money you save on Valentines day like seriously go buy yourself your favorite candy bar yay
  • No messy breakups (glad I avoided that one)
  • Think of the puns
  • So. Many. Puns.
  • If someone invalidates your orientation you can just shoot an arrow at them (don’t do that I’m kidding please don’t shoot someone with an arrow and then say I told you to do that)
  • You have an excuse to make everything the color green (don’t tell me you don’t like green, everyone likes green ok just pretend)
  • You won’t have to spend your life searching for “the right one” instead you can search for “the right flavor of ramen noodles”
  • Just being aro in general like wow you’re so cool you don’t even need romance see you’re like a lone wolf and everyone likes wolves cause they’re so majestic and shit

So yeah don’t feel bad about being aro because wow so many cool things isn’t it amazing

One of the big reasons why I don’t think that the A should stand for Ally is because by making it stand for ally AND asexual and aromantic, it means that people will skip over the last two and focus on the easy and well-known one. Everyone knows allies, they don’t need the visibility. 

Allies have priority over asexual and aromantic people. People already know who they are. I went to a local pride event this past month, I saw plenty of things for allies, I saw maybe three or four things for asexuals, and none for aromantics. 

Part of BEING an ally is knowing when it’s time to pass the spotlight onto someone else who needs it more than you do. Not only are allies not part of the community (Being that they’re cisgender, heterosexual and heteroromantic) but by putting themselves in the acronym, they take that spotlight from people who are part of the community and need the visibility.
